Hull, 13 January 2026 – HiiROC Ltd (“HiiROC”) and Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (“Tokyo Gas”) are pleased to announce the signing of a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore a strategic partnership and potential future investment. The MoU, dated 5 January 2025, sets out the key areas for exploration under which the two companies will collaborate on HiiROC’s thermal plasma electrolysis technology (“TPE Technology”) in Japan, with the option to expand to other regions in the future through mutual agreement.
Under the MoU, Tokyo Gas and HiiROC will jointly assess opportunities to decarbonise Tokyo Gas customers’ operations and assets, as well as to explore potential future uses of the solid carbon by-product by Tokyo Gas customers or third parties through the application of TPE Technology. This partnership aims to leverage the combined expertise of both companies to advance decarbonisation solutions and foster innovation in the hydrogen and carbon black sectors.
“We are excited to partner with Tokyo Gas and believe this collaboration will drive significant advancements in the decarbonisation of energy and industrial assets and the carbon black sector,” said Tim Davies, CEO at HiiROC. “Together, we aim to create a sustainable future through the application of our innovative TPE Technology in Japan.”
The MoU marks a step towards a long-term vision of sustainable energy and decarbonisation solutions. The collaboration will focus on key areas such as the decarbonisation of energy assets and the potential pathways for the future utilisation of solid carbon, with the aim of achieving specific objectives outlined in the MoU.
